Werkstätte Carl Auböck at Barneys NY
The elegant brass work of Werkstätte Carl Auböck is available at Barneys New York. I admit that I had never heard of this important Austrian designer who came of age in the Wiener Werkstätte era. The timeless sculptural forms are perfectly fresh today.

from Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum:
Carl Auböck II (1900-1957) was one of the leading figures of Austrian Modernism. After apprenticing under a bronze worker in his parents' workshop during his early teens, he went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, followed by an important period of tutelage at the Bauhaus under Johannes Itten. In 1926, he took over his father's workshop, continuing the production of more traditional products for the Viennese and American market. It was not until the early forties that Auböck began to hone his particular sculptural style for which he later became famous. In 1954, just three years before his early death, he received four gold medals at the Triennale di Milano.
