Hermès Silk and Cashmere Degradé Sweater Fall 2010
On a recent visit to the Hermès Men's boutique on Madison Avenue, I was shown this incredible sweater. It actually appeared simple enough, a silk twill front featuring the iconic Brides de Gala print in somber tones with cashmere sleeves and turtleneck, however, upon closer inspection the craftsmanship is revealed. Magically the silk turns into cashmere. Well, not quite. The degradé effect is produced by a unique treatment: the silk is actually bonded to a cashmere lining and the cashmere is artfully pulled through the silk twill until gradually reaching the ribbed hem. Luxury deconstruction.
