Dries Van Noten Spring 2011 Pencil Shorts
Occasionally runway presentations don't speak to me. That would definitely be the case with Dries Van Noten Spring 2011. I did not care for the model casting, styling and especially the over use of bleach spattered denim. However, once the pieces started to arrive I realized that the gorgeous textiles and masterful cuts are still there beneath the brash runway pieces.
A perfect example are these slim pencil shorts in Navy blue tropical weight wool. Dressy enough to pair with a button down shirt and blazer for a grown up schoolboy look, yet casual enough to work with a tee or tank, perhaps topped with a cotton cardigan. I would pair them with lace up derbies (um, no socks please) or sandals. These shorts are precisely slim, but not freakishly tight. The fabric and finishing is of the quality I have come to expect from Dries Van Noten.
