Friday Outfit

What I wore on Friday. Prada Black cropped peacoat, Club Monaco Black/White gingham shirt, Uniqlo Black jeans, Hermès Black Lodge Boots, Dries Van Noten Black silk/sequin scarf and Junya Watanabe Black belt.

Junya Watanabe Varsity Jacket

The letterman or varsity jacket, the iconic American school staple is back and the best iteration is by Americana-obsessed Junya Watanabe. Junya loves authentic details, so he sourced the leather from Johnson's of San Francisco, the provider of leather for the US Military and several US police forces. The updated body is a bit longer, making the shape much more contemporary and slimming. Love the red satin lining.

Available at Bergdorf Goodman and at End Clothing. Approximately $990 USD.

Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Croc and Canvas Belt

I was perusing the Fall/Winter 2010 offerings at Comme des Garçons on 22nd Street and nothing was completely seducing me. But wait. I saw this Junya Watanabe black military style faux croc and canvas belt lying lonely on a shelf and I thought it would look great with black jeans or even cinching the waist of a blazer or long coat. It's all about the contrasting materials and heavy utilitarian buckle.

Junya Watanabe Fall 2011 Fair Isle Blazer

Since we are talking Fair Isles, why not talk about the man who elevated the humble sweater to a stunning blazer for Fall 2011--Junya Watanabe. I love the spirited suede elbow patches and back yoke. Perfect for a chic spell in the country. It is exactly the sort of humorous statement piece I adore.

Available at End Clothing. Approximately $2000 USD. (20% off for non-EU clients)

Junya Watanabe MAN Spring 2010 Sale

Junya Watanabe MAN Spring 2010

Well, two days ago it soared over 100 degrees here in NYC and I've been missing a pair of slim black shorts that are dressy enough that I can get away with them at work. I saw these Junya Watanabe MAN Black cotton/nylon faille shorts at the beginning of the season, but the price was a bigger splurge than I could justify. The super slim cut and the longer length, just past the knee (apparently I am shorter than the model), make them work appropriate and razor sharp with a White shirt and Black derbies. They actually remind me very much of the Spring 2011 Comme des Garçons Men's show I discuss here. Love the gingham detail in the waistband and the rear pocket flap.

Well, I got lucky. 50% off at Bloomingdale's Soho. Woot!

Junya Watanabe Man Spring 2011 Striped Blazer

image: style.com

Maybe I lost my mind a bit, because I certainly wouldn't consider this Spring 2011 Junya Watanabe Man Red and Navy nautical striped blazer an investment worthy classic, but this jacket fit like a glove and is made of a breezy stretch cotton piqué. I purchased mostly classic pieces this season, so this is my Fashion Victim piece for Spring. At least it will go with my Navy shoes. Once in a while you just have to throw caution to the wind and buy what you love.

Available at Barneys NY and Bloomingdale's Soho.

Junya Watanabe MAN Spring 2011 Striped Tee

If you haven't bought your long sleeved striped tee for Spring 2011 yet, you may want to consider the ultimate from Junya Watanabe MAN. It was the underpinning for much of his Spring 2011 show and add the right graphic punch to a blazer, leather jacket or all on its own. No regatta, no problem.

Available here. Approximately $220 USD.

Junya Watanabe Fall 2010 Paris

The Quadrophenia vibe of this collection, with its hooded parka topped suits worn with stingy brim Fedoras and Pork Pie hats, was spot on. Junya Watanabe proposes new wardrobe additions in technical fabrics with slim ergonomic cuts. Complete with contrast stitching, the slim boot leg pants are cut like jeans. It might just be the perfect season to finally get a hooded parka that works over a suit. After all, Mods famously rode Vespas and so do I.
