Prada On Sale

Every once in a while you come across a great classic, with the perfect fit, in your size, on sale. Prada Soho is on sale now at 50% off and I found this crisp navy and white cotton gingham shirt. Perfect with white jeans for Summer 2010.

Prada Marfa

In 2005, Berlin based artists Elmgreen & Dragset unveiled Prada Marfa, a 15' x 25' sculptural doppelganger of a Prada boutique near Marfa, Texas, complete with lighting and merchandise, but sealed shut: a time capsule of Luxury retail.

The painted sign referencing the location of the sculpture is featured prominently in the Van der Woodsen/Bass apartment on Gossip Girl and the Works On Whatever edition of that sign currently resides in our bedroom.

Elmgreen & Dragset:

“As one drives toward the artwork it will appear to be a large minimalist sculpture, as one gets closer it will look like a luxury boutique where a display of Fall 2005 high-heel Prada shoes and bags will be seen through the store front windows… blends into the exciting historical structures of the area in which it will be placed… As we purposefully will not preserve Prada Marfa, it will eventually become a ruin so that even in a future decayed state it will remain relevant to the time in which it was made…”

Available at Works On Whatever here. $300 USD plus shipping.

Return of the Monday Outfit

After a two week hiatus the Monday Outfit returns. Prada Men's Duffel Spring Summer 2010

image: gq.com

I am very excited about this new Prada Duffel from the Spring/Summer 2010 runway. I can't wait to see it in person. By now, you should know that I love grey and the perforated leather looks very interesting. I don't have anything in my collection that resembles this light sporty shape.

Friday Outfit

What I wore on Friday. Prada Black cropped peacoat, Club Monaco Black/White gingham shirt, Uniqlo Black jeans, Hermès Black Lodge Boots, Dries Van Noten Black silk/sequin scarf and Junya Watanabe Black belt.

Prada Double Buckle Monkstrap Shoe at Barneys NY

I want these undeniably elegant Prada shoes. The double buckle monkstrap is fresh and I am really into the almond shaped toe right now. The subtle cap toe stitching is what makes them both refined and modern.

Prada Fall 2010 Coat Dilemma

images: gq.com

I am having the hardest time deciding between these two Prada Fall 2010 coats. Of course they share many of the same design details, including the perhaps too signature chunky knit double collar, but the silhouette is entirely different. The knee length coat is perhaps the more classic choice, but also feels more retro with the wide belt detail on the back. The ultra cropped pea coat is fresh and new, but maybe will feel dated by 2012. Quel dilemme!

By the way, the coats were delivered without the ruched sleeve detail, they are just extra long and the heavy wool gabardine fabric does not lend itself to being scrunched, so the look will be cleaner once they are hemmed to the proper length (I like my coats with very long sleeves, covering at least 1/3 of my hands.

What do you think?

Fall 2010: The Sweater Coat

The newest item for fall 2010 is definitely the sweater coat. More than just a layering piece, these over sized sweaters are worn as outerwear, filling the same niche in your wardrobe as blazers and leather jackets. Totally at ease for early fall weather. These are my favorites from Burberry, YSL, Prada and Ann Demeulemeester.

Prada Fall 2011 Lurex Polo

What I was doing in that Prada dressing room: I've been eagerly awaiting the Prada Fall 2011 Lurex pieces and I tried on virtually every style. I decided on the polo vs. the v-neck. There are solid turtlenecks and long sleeve polos as well. The v-neck made me feel like Spock from Star Trek, so I bought the Navy with the Purple collar and Bronze placket.

Prada Fall 2011 Modernist Wedge

images: prada.com

Although not as craze-inducing as the Prada Spring 2011 brogue espadrille, these shoes hark back to the early days of Prada in the 1990s with their futuristic air, orthopedic aesthetic and chunky profile. Perhaps in the right color combo this could be a must.

Prada Spring 2011

The three button jacket is back and super slim, often paired with looser pants as we see the Prada Man move into a bit more volume this season. Fantastic graphic sweaters closed the show.

Prada Spring 2012 Gutsy Golf

images: style.com

Yes, a quirky homage to American golf was where Miuccia Prada's head was for Spring 2012. Retro 60s golfing attire (need a double breasted jacket!) clashed with Lily Pulitzer prints (loved the pants!) and studded cowboy shirts, even a vintage 50s tablecloth print made the cut in a boxy shirt. The odd palette of off-pastels took everything into the 21st century. In the end, once again, the shoe of the season: the Prada Kiltie. With or without studs?
