Bottega Veneta Mineral Crocodile Fume Wallet

Speaking of Tom Ford's love of crocodile yesterday, I have always wanted a Crocodile wallet myself. I keep seeing them in different colors in both matte and glazed (shiny). Introducing my new Bottega Veneta Crocodile Wallet. I am glad that I resisted the usual classic black or dark brown offerings, because this season Bottega Veneta has created the most sumptuous neutral in Mineral. It is a toasted almond shade between beige and taupe. I adore matte crocodile, especially from Bottega Veneta, but somehow this glazed skin had more appeal. Each scale has a subtle chocolate brown outline from the Fume tanning process.

Every piece of leather is unique, but when it comes to Crocodile and Alligator, those differences are even more pronounced. I would never recommend the purchase of any item in an exotic skin without seeing the piece in real life. Every scale is different and the way the skin is cut can influence the final outcome tremendously. Defects are also common, so always examine closely. I prefer to see a great deal of variation in the size and shape of the scales as well. Remember, the key to beautiful Alligator and Crocodile pieces is symmetry.

On this unseasonably warm day, I wore a +J Navy wool blazer, Zara Navy v-neck thermal, Uniqlo skinny dark denim jeans, Dries Van Noten black belt, Balenciaga grey boots, Alexander McQueen burgundy silk scarf and Bottega Veneta Ash Fume matte crocodile tote.

Emma Watson--stunningly mature, sleek and sophisticated--wears Bottega Veneta Fall 2011 at the New York premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”.

Bottega Veneta Vachetta Plongé Tote

Here is my new Bottega Veneta Vachetta Plongé Tote. The smooth saddle calf is dyed a dusky deep purple called Gladiola and is the perfect size for my admittedly large inventory of daily essentials. I never thought about carrying a bag this color before, but I just fell in love with the pared down shape in this luxurious glowing shade. The calfskin is divine and will develop the most beautiful patina. The color is rich, yet with its grey/brown undertones, still neutral enough to wear with almost anything, any day. The quality speaks for itself, no logos needed.

Bottega Veneta Stingray Tote

Directly from the Spring/Summer 2010 Men's Bottega Veneta runway is this flat tote in decadent stingray. The unique spine of the stingray is emphasized in the tanning process and the clever zig zag pattern used to piece together the skins is a house signature. These special pieces are produced in very limited quantities.

$3350 USD. Available at BottegaVeneta.com here.

I adore stingray, which is also known as shagreen. Its unique jewel like texture always fascinates me and the dying process used by Bottega Veneta produces one of a kind results. This tough material has been transformed into a luxuriously soft continental wallet. $690 USD.

Available at Bottega Veneta stores and here.

Bottega Veneta Tie Dye Cabat

The ultimate bag from Italian house Bottega Veneta is the Cabat. A chic timeless reconsideration of a classic market tote, it shuns hardware and logos, only whispering quiet Luxury. This limited edition model, the Tie Dye Cabat, is hand woven of nappa (lambskin) in Ivory, Moro and Cigar. It is super soft with a wonderful hand. Keep in mind that this is the Uomo size, designed specifically for men, which is the largest in the Cabat family. The ladies sizes have already sold out.

Available at Bottega Veneta here. $9800 USD.

Tie Dye To Die For

While I am completely in love with these Bottega Veneta tie-dyed Spring/Summer 2010 runway scarves with their rich hippie vibe in delicate cashmere and silk, I can also appreciate a cheap alternative. We were visiting Eric's parents in Florida recently and the weather was just dreadful. So, the best alternative to the pool? The mall. We stumbled into Express where I spotted this colorful Women's scarf piled high in a lucite box on sale for $19.50 USD. All rayon and not as exquisite as the Bottega Veneta version, but nice enough for the few times I will wear it this Spring.

Bottega Veneta V-Neck Fever

images: gq.com

Color ruled the Spring/Summer 2010 Bottega Veneta Men's runway and it was the most influential show of the season. In a shade so hot, Tomas Maier dubbed it "Fever", this sexy v-neck tee in lustrous viscose jersey had to be mine. I love the unique sexy neckline detail. I see this with Olive cotton pants, an equally bright Magenta sweater and a Navy cotton blazer. Now if the weather would just warm up.

Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2010: Rockabilly

images: gq.com

Tomas Maier is always most comfortable working in the sophisticated somber palate for which he is known. Indigo, Black, Charcoal, Aubergine and Dark Brown are ever present in his collections and have become the signature of the Bottega Veneta brand.

For Fall/Winter 2010 he takes us on a Post World War II era Rockabilly jaunt complete with Teddy Boys, Pompadours and Jellyroll hair styles. The show opens with military fatigue deluxe, segues to fitted jackets with drainpipe pants and finally an outfit worthy of Jerry Lee Lewis. Mr. Maier steers clear of retro redux with precision tailoring, ultra luxe fabrics and refined proportions. The shoes emphasize the mood with combat boots and chunky creepers, even a pair in precious crocodile. Who says white socks aren't cool?
