Visionaire 58 Spirit: A Tribute To Lee Alexander McQueen

image: visionaireworld.com

Visionaire 58: Spirit is a tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen
.

from Visionaire--Visionaire first featured the provocative fashion designs of Lee Alexander McQueen in 1996, and he remained a continuous inspiration and presence for the magazine, providing some of its most treasured contributions. In 2003, McQueen visited the New York offices and gallery of Visionaire to discuss collaborating on an issue of the magazine--an issue that sadly was never to be. Visionaire No. 58: Spirit is a tribute to McQueen's genius and legacy. It gathers images inspired by McQueen from such contributors as Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Nick Knight, Steven Klein and David Sims; these images are printed on paper embedded with wildflower seeds, so that, when planted, watered and exposed to sunlight, the pages will blossom. Spirit is presented in a case that is wrapped in an Alexander McQueen metalized brocade, featured in the designer's Spring/Summer show of 2010, and is limited to an edition of 1,500 numbered copies.

Available here. $295 USD.

Help Make Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty A Traveling Exhibition

I was overwhelmed by the incredible Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum and I hope that they consider making it a traveling show. This is an experience that should be open to the world.

Please see the petition here.

Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty at The Met

Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty at The Metropolitan Museum is a must see for everyone. Beyond fashion, the installation is a complex environment with thematic rooms, music, videos, even holograms--the perfect stage for McQueen. An incredible tribute to a true visionary.

The show ends August 7 and I recommend going early in the day to avoid lines.

The fabulous merchandising department of The Metropolitan Museum created this special ornament of hand painted cast resin as a unique keepsake of one of the most striking McQueen designs. It even has a leather sole. Made in The Philippines. 4" high. $25 USD. Available here when in stock.

Alexander McQueen Men Spring 2011

The Alexander McQueen man has a nonchalance this season with relaxed asymmetrical jackets and peg leg pants. The neutral palette and mix and match styling feels modern. You could easily slip one or two pieces into your wardrobe for an instant update.

Party Outfit: 007 Theme

As promised, our Party Outfits for the James Bond Theme party we attended Saturday night to honor our dear friend's 50th birthday.

I wore a Prada Black sleeveless polo, Ann Demeulemeester Black matte sequin vest, Ann D. Black pants, Ann D. Silver necklace, Julius Black blazer and YSL Black boots.

Eric wore a Tuxedo, Gucci Black shirt, Alexander McQueen Burgundy scarf and Prada Black boots.

Alexander McQueen Scarf

I already have two Alexander McQueen scarves: Bordeaux/Black and Navy/Bordeaux, but when I came across this version in Navy/Magenta I couldn't say no. I purchased this scarf shortly before McQueen's tragic suicide.

Alexander McQueen Puma

I had been searching for these Alexander McQueen Pumas for months and I finally found them in my size, on sale no less. But when they sadly arrived on the very day Lee McQueen was discovered dead after taking his own life, I could not summon any joy.

My Alexander McQueen

While mourning the tragic loss of Lee McQueen, I realized that I never got around to posting this scarf, which I purchased a few weeks ago. My sincerest sympathy to Lee McQueen's family and friends. May he rest in peace.

I wore my Alexander McQueen scarf in Burgundy/Black that I wrote about here more than I expected to this Fall/Winter, so I thought I should take a peek at the colorways for Spring/Summer 2010. Lightweight and easy to wear, I fell for this Navy/Bordeaux as I ease into a little more color in the warmer weather.

Available at Alexander McQueen NYC.

Farewell Lee Alexander McQueen (1969 - 2010)

Fear No More

Fear no more the heat o' the sun,
Nor the furious winter's rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages;
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.

Fear no more the frown o' the great;
Thou art past the tyrant's stroke:
Care no more to clothe and eat;
To thee the reed is as the oak:
The sceptre, learning, physic, must
All follow this, and come to dust.

Fear no more the lightning-flash,
Nor the all-dreaded thunder-stone;
Fear not slander, censure rash;
Thou hast finished joy and moan;
All lovers young, all lovers must
Consign to thee, and come to dust.

From Shakespeare's Cymbeline

Thursday Outfit: St. Barths

I wore this outfit to our sushi dinner on Sunday night at La Bête a Z'Ailes: a Cerulean Blue Alexander McQueen short sleeved cotton button down shirt, +J Olive cotton pants, Orange Hermès belt and Brown Hermès sandals.

Alexander McQueen High Waist Pant Fall 2011

image: gq.com

I've been thinking it was about time for someone to show high waisted pants on the runway. I look to designers for direction and fresh proportions. The low waist has been around for at least a decade. Perhaps it is time for a change? I do not know who designs the impressive menswear collection at Alexander McQueen, but he or she is definitely up to something. Oh, and fabulous coats.

Gilt: Alexander McQueen

On New Year's Eve, I wore this Alexander McQueen Ecru cotton/silk button down shirt with Black and Gold silk jacquard trim from Gilt.com. The fabric is flannel soft and the collar, well, speaks for itself.

Original price $745, sale $148 - $50 referral credit = $98 USD. Steal.

I always have trouble deciding what to wear to an event, especially when we are hosting. I took advantage of the fact that we were home and I indulged in a costume change. Here is the table setting for our New Year's Eve cocktail party and my two looks. The first shirt is Alexander McQueen. Later, I changed into a favorite shirt by Dries Van Noten. I did not change my Uniqlo UJ Black skinny jeans, YSL Black Jonny boots, Black Dries Van Noten belt and Hermès Ombre Lizard CDC cuff.

Thanks to our lovely guests for making it a perfect New Year's Eve.
